What education does an Acupuncturist need?

Dr. Karen Cox has a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She completed a year long internship with a Sports Medicine Acupuncture Physician, specializing in Myofascial Bodywork & Acupuncture for Pain Management. She completed a 2 year long internship with a prominent Acupuncture Physician in the Sarasota area specializing in a variety of conditions, such as: pain management, digestive disorders, blood pressure regulation, blood sugar imbalances, chronic degenerative diseases, stress/anxiety management, cold/flu relief, allergy and immune system regulation, & much more.
Dr. Karen Cox has also been a Licensed and Board Certified Medical Massage Therapist since 1999.

Is Acupuncture safe? What does it treat?

Do Acupuncture needles hurt?

Close to 10 acupuncture needles can fit inside the tip of one hypodermic needle. Acupuncture needles are hair-like fine and flexible. Some patients may experience a mild tingling sensation upon needle insertion, everyone's sensitivity to the needles varies. In general, the sensation felt by most patients is a sense of heaviness, a dull ache, a warming sensation and an overall feeling of increased relaxation.

How many treatments will I need?

Every patient has different needs and health concerns; therefore, the suggested treatment protocol varies. A treatment plan of 4-10 visits is usually suggested. The length of the treatment varies depending on the condition being treated, a more chronic condition may require a longer treatment time. Your practitioner will determine what treatment style is appropriate for your condition.
